Senators' thoughts on today's "vote-a-rama" are as follows

As the chamber proceeds to vote on changes to President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful" domestic policy plan, senators are expressing differing opinions.

Here are some opinions:

Sen. John Fetterman: The Democrat from Pennsylvania stated today that he does not believe his fellow Democrats should impose a protracted "vote-a-rama" procedure on Trump's comprehensive measure, which would require hundreds of amendment votes. He argues that this is not a good way for the party to communicate. It's not particularly useful, in my opinion. To make that strong message, I believe you should make your case in the following five, seven, or eight amendments," he remarked. "Oh my god, I just want to go home," Fetterman said when asked what time he anticipated the process may end. I've already All of our beach trip has been missed by me.

Democrats intend to propose "a lot of amendments" to improve "at least pieces of this bill," according to Sen. Chris Van Hollen, but "at its core, it really is still going to be very rotten." The Democrat from Maryland claimed that his party was in a "similar situation" when, in 2017, three Republicans joined Democrats in thwarting a GOP attempt to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

Just before the "vote-a-rama" started, GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt told reporters, "We're about to walk into the Thunderdome," indicating his belief that Republicans will prevail in the message fight. "I think the Democrats are going to try to score some cheap political points," the Missouri representative continued. However, the reality is that their rhetoric is really stale.
